Confronting Monsters, from Hong Kong to New York, San Francisco to Berlin, Oral Histories and Direct Action, Narratives of Resistance and Activism

Benjamin Heim Shepard, Laurie Wen

We both believe in the power of social movements, as well as the need for oral histories tracing the lost stories, underground tributaries of resistance and activism. Throughout this workshop, we trace examples of oral histories as means of resistance, opening stories, recalling struggles from New York, Hong Kong, San Francisco, and Berlin. From there, we will engage the audience in a conversation and group oral history process on taking on monsters, sharing stories of collective struggles, and building communities of resistance. Everyone has a story worth sharing.
