Lifetime of Reflection and Resistance: Daniel Ellsberg's Truth and Consequence and an Ordinary Insanity

Michael Ellsberg, Jan R. Thomas, Judith Ehrlich, Patricia Ellsberg

Daniel Ellsberg's posthumous book, Truth and Consequence: Reflections on Catastrophe, Civil Resistance, and Hope (Bloomsbury, March 2026) draws from 50 years of entries in his personal notebooks, starting with the year he released the Pentagon Papers. An Ordinary Insanity, a newly released 29-minute documentary film, features Ellsberg's wisdom and warning on the growing danger of nuclear war. This session brings film and book together: first with book talks by co-editors Michael Ellsberg and Jan Thomas, interspersed with excerpts from the film, followed by Q&A with the co-editors and Oscar- & Emmy-nominated filmmaker Judith Ehrlich.
